HFHV works with communities to eliminate poverty housing in Vanuatu

Habitat for Humanity Vanuatu helps people living in substandard housing to build simple, decent and affordable homes. We train teams of volunteers in construction skills using low-cost technology. We help finance new homes through programmes tailored to local conditions and values. We help communities improve health standards and disaster response capacity. We give women and young people opportunities to improve their lives and find employment. And we work to ensure the sustainability of HFHV projects through the innovations of our Building Centres.
We use low-cost technology to build affordable homes.
Concrete interlocking blocks and micro concrete roofing tiles allow people to build stronger and more affordable homes. Smokeless stoves, composting toilets and water tanks improve health and bring sustainable technologies to low-income households.
We teach others how to build.
Our education and training programmes help improve people's construction skills, business planning and disaster preparedness – increasing their earning power, self-reliance and sense of pride.
Everyone gets involved in building.
People come together to build a Habitat home. Our Save and Build programme allows communities to take control of a building project, and improve their homes without the burden of excessive loan repayments.
Our Building Centres play a vital role.
The HFHV Building Centre model has proven to be an effective way of running our programmes, while generating funds to ensure the sustainability of our work. A new flagship centre is being developed in Port Vila.
